C-2:The Ego – The Miracle

1. 1Illusions will not last. 2Their death is sure and this alone is certain in their world. 3It is the ego’s world because of this. 4What is the ego? 5But a dream of what you really are. 6A thought you are apart from your Creator and a wish to be what He created not. 7It is a thing of madness, not reality at all. 8A name for namelessness is all it is. 9A symbol of impossibility; a choice for options that do not exist. 10We name it but to help us understand that it is nothing but an ancient thought that what is made has immortality. 11But what could come of this except a dream which, like all dreams, can only end in death?

2. 1What is the ego? 2Nothingness, but in a form that seems like something. 3In a world of form the ego cannot be denied for it alone seems real. 4Yet could God’s Son as He created him abide in form or in a world of form? 5Who asks you to define the ego and explain how it arose can be but he who thinks it real, and seeks by definition to ensure that its illusive nature is concealed behind the words that seem to make it so.

3. 1There is no definition for a lie that serves to make it true. 2Nor can there be a truth that lies conceal effectively. 3The ego’s unreality is not denied by words nor is its meaning clear because its nature seems to have a form. 4Who can define the undefinable? 5And yet there is an answer even here.

4. 1We cannot really make a definition for what the ego is, but we can say what it is not. 2And this is shown to us with perfect clarity. 3It is from this that we deduce all that the ego is. 4Look at its opposite and you can see the only answer that is meaningful.

5. 1The ego’s opposite in every way,—in origin, effect and consequence—we call a miracle. 2And here we find all that is not the ego in this world. 3Here is the ego’s opposite and here alone we look on what the ego was, for here we see all that it seemed to do, and cause and its effects must still be one.

6. 1Where there was darkness now we see the light. 2What is the ego? 3What the darkness was. 4Where is the ego? 5Where the darkness was. 6What is it now and where can it be found? 7Nothing and nowhere. 8Now the light has come: Its opposite has gone without a trace. 9Where evil was there now is holiness. 10What is the ego? 11What the evil was. 12Where is the ego? 13In an evil dream that but seemed real while you were dreaming it. 14Where there was crucifixion stands God’s Son. 15What is the ego? 16Who has need to ask? 17Where is the ego? 18Who has need to seek for an illusion now that dreams are gone?

7. 1What is a miracle? 2A dream as well. 3But look at all the aspects of this dream and you will never question any more. 4Look at the kindly world you see extend before you as you walk in gentleness. 5Look at the helpers all along the way you travel, happy in the certainty of Heaven and the surety of peace. 6And look an instant, too, on what you left behind at last and finally passed by.

8. 1This was the ego—all the cruel hate, the need for vengeance and the cries of pain, the fear of dying and the urge to kill, the brotherless illusion and the self that seemed alone in all the universe. 2This terrible mistake about yourself the miracle corrects as gently as a loving mother sings her child to rest. 3Is not a song like this what you would hear? 4Would it not answer all you thought to ask, and even make the question meaningless?

9. 1Your questions have no answer, being made to still God’s Voice, which asks of everyone one question only: “Are you ready yet to help Me save the world?” 2Ask this instead of what the ego is, and you will see a sudden brightness cover up the world the ego made. 3No miracle is now withheld from anyone. 4The world is saved from what you thought it was. 5And what it is, is wholly uncondemned and wholly pure.

10. 1The miracle forgives; the ego damns. 2Neither need be defined except by this. 3Yet could a definition be more sure, or more in line with what salvation is? 4Problem and answer lie together here, and having met at last the choice is clear. 5Who chooses hell when it is recognized? 6And who would not go on a little while when it is given him to understand the way is short and Heaven is his goal?

1. 幻相是不会持久的。
死亡是它们的必然结局，幻相世界里只有这一点最为肯定。
为此，它必属于小我的世界。
小我是什么？
它是你对自己的真相所作的那个梦罢了。
它是你认定自己与造物主分离的那一念，它是你想要成为非祂所造的模样那个愿望而已。
这东西疯狂得很，毫不真实。
它只是无名之物浪得的虚名罢了。
它象征着不可能的存在、没有选择的选择。
我们赋予它一个名字，只是为了帮助我们了解它代表的只是“认为自己所造的一切都是不朽的”那古老的想法而已。
这种念头只可能衍生为一场梦境，而所有的梦境最后都会在死亡中结束。
2. 小我是什么？
就是虚无，外表上却显得真有那么一回事似地。
在形相世界里，你很难否定小我，因为只有它显得最为真实。
然而，上主所创造的圣子岂会栖身于这种形相或是虚有其表的世界？
若有人要求你界定小我，还要你解释它是怎么形成的，这人必然已经认定小我是真实的，他想透过界定的方式，把小我的虚幻本质隐匿在那好似言之成理的文字解说后面。
3. 没有一个谎言能够透过界定的途径而弄假成真的。
也没有一个谎言蒙蔽得了真理。
小我的不实性不是靠文字解说就能否定得了的，它的存在不会因为虚有其表而显出了意义。
有谁能为无法界定之物下定义？
虽说如此，我们仍有一个解决方案。
4. 即使我们无法真正为小我的本质下定义，但我们仍能说出“它不是什么”。
我们不难把这一点看得一清二楚。
我们也是由此归纳出小我的本质的。
只要你敢正视与小我相反的那一面，你就会看见那唯一有意义的答案了。
5. 只要是与小我相反的，不论是从它的起因、作用或后果来看，都可视为奇迹。
我们会在奇迹中找到世间不属于小我的一切。
只有从小我的反面，我们才能看出小我的庐山真面目，看穿小我表面做出的一切以及它的因因果果，其实都是同一回事。
6. 在以往的黑暗之境，我们如今看到了光明。
小我是什么？
就是那片黑暗。
小我在何处？
就在先前黑暗藏身之处。
它如今又成了什么？何处才能找到它？
它什么也不是，也无迹可寻。
如今光明已经来临，黑暗已经消失得无踪无影。
先前邪恶藏身之处，如今成了圣地。
小我是什么？
就是那邪恶本身。
小我在何处？
就在邪恶的梦里，它只会在你梦里显得真实无比。
过去十字架所在之处，如今立着上主之子。
小我是什么？
还有谁会追究？
小我在何处？
如今，还有谁想追逐这个幻相？因为梦境已经结束了。
7. 奇迹是什么？
也是一个梦而已。
然而，只要你全面正视一下这个梦，你就会疑虑顿消。
踏着温柔的脚步走入展现于你眼前的爱的世界吧！
好好地端详一下这一路上帮助你的人，并为天堂的肯定性以及平安的必然性而欢欣雀跃。
你也不妨临别一瞥身后的世界，你总算能够义无反顾地离它而去了。
8. 小我是什么？它不外乎：冷酷的仇恨，报复的欲望，痛苦的吶喊，死亡的恐惧，杀人的冲动，举目无亲的幻相，一身孑然地活于天地间的自我。
然而，奇迹温柔地修正了你对自己所怀的可怕误解，它好似慈母为爱子吟唱的一首摇篮曲。
这不正是你想要听到的歌声吗？
这不正答复了你想问的一切问题吗？这一答复会使问题本身显得荒诞无稽。
9. 你的问题是没有答案的，因那只是你为了掩盖上主天音而发的噪音；而天音对每一个人只会提出一个问题：“你已准备好帮我拯救世界了吗？”
要问就问这个，不要再去问小我究竟是怎么一回事了。你会在小我营造的世界突然看见一片光明笼罩其上。
如今，奇迹毫不保留地呈现在每个人面前。
世界便由你先前认定的妄见中解脱了。
如今，它的真相大白，不带一丝罪罚的阴影，彻底纯洁无染。
10. 奇迹宽恕人；小我诅咒人。
除此之外，它们不需要任何定义了。
没有一个定义能比这个更确然，或是更接近救恩的内涵了。
问题与答案都在这里，两者终于碰头了，你的选择也显而易见。
有谁认出地狱的真相后还会选择地狱？
只要让他明白，余程不远，天堂已在望，谁还会在此流连而踟蹰不前？
1.幻相乃是過眼雲煙。
它們必死無疑，這也是這世上唯一確定不移的事。
因此，這是個小我的世界。
小我（ego）是什麼？
不過是你就自己的真實身份所做的一個夢。
它相信你和自己的造物業已分離，它希望你背離祂為你創造的模樣。
它神智失常，沒有一點兒真實性。
它不過是我們給無名所起的名字。
它象徵著不可能發生的事；它是你所選擇的一個不存在的選項。
之所以替它起名，不過是為了幫助我們了解它僅僅是個古老的信念，相信出於營造的事物也能永遠地存在下去。
然而，除了夢之外，它還造得出什麼？而所有的夢最終都得走向死亡。
2.小我是什麼？
它什麼也不是，只不過採取了一種煞有介事的形式罷了。
在一個充滿形式的世界裡，你否定不了小我，因為只有它才貌似真實。
然而，上主之子豈能以其出自上主的模樣，待在形式或一個充滿形式的世界裡？
除了相信小我為真的人之外，誰會要你定義小我，並解釋小我怎麼就有了出現的可能？這些人試圖透過定義小我，來確保它的幻相本質能隱藏在那些看似得以將它弄假成真的文字之中。
3.為謊言下定義絕不能使其成為真理。
也沒有任何真理能被謊言徹底遮蓋。
文字否定不了小我的不真實，而它的意義也不會因其本質貌似擁有某種形式就顯得清晰可辨。
誰能為無法定義的東西下定義？
但即便如此，我們仍能得到一個答案。
4.我們無法真的界定小我是什麼，但我們能說清楚小我不是什麼。
而聖靈已把這點清清楚楚的告訴了我們。
從這點上，我們就能推斷出有關小我的一切。
只消看看它的反面，你就能見到那唯一有意義的答案。
5.方方面面都和小我相反的——不論是就起源、結果、或者結局而言——我們稱之為奇蹟（miracle）。
在這世上，我們只能從這兒找到一切不屬於小我的事物。
奇蹟就是小我的反面，也只有從這兒我們才看得清小我的面目，因為在這兒我們見到了它好似做出的一切，而因與其果必定仍是一體不二。
6.黑暗所在之處，如今我們見到了光明。
小我是什麼？
黑暗是什麼，它就是什麼。
小我在哪兒？
黑暗在哪兒，它就在那兒。
如今，它是什麼？它又在哪兒？
什麼也不是，哪兒也找不著。
如今，光明業已來臨；而光明的反面則消失得無影無蹤。
邪惡所在之處，如今充滿了神聖。
小我是什麼？
邪惡是什麼，小我就是什麼。
小我在哪兒？
在邪惡的夢境裡，而只有你在做這樣的夢時，它才貌似真實。
十字架苦刑所在之處，如今佇立著上主之子。
小我是什麼？
誰還需要問這樣的問題？
小我在哪兒？
既然夢都醒了，誰還需要找尋幻相？
7.奇蹟是什麼？
仍是個夢。
但只消看看這個夢的方方面面，你就不會再提出任何質疑了。
當你溫柔地漫步時，看著眼前這個仁慈的世界吧，它會在你面前延展。
看著旅途中所有前來助你一臂之力的弟兄，幸福地想著，天堂與平安是你必然的歸宿。
同時，也回頭一瞥那最終被你拋在身後，且不再留戀的一切。
8.這就是小我——一切殘酷的憎恨、報復的需求和痛苦的哀號、死亡的恐懼和殺戮的衝動、舉目無親的錯覺和看似在整個宇宙中孑然一身的自我。
奇蹟會修正這可怕的錯誤，那是你看待自己的方式，它溫柔得好似一位慈母哼著曲子，伴著自己的孩子入眠。
你想聽的不就是這樣的曲調嗎？
它難道回答不了你想得到的所有問題，甚至讓這些問題變得毫無意義？
9.你的問題沒有答案，因為它們被你用以隔絕上主之音。它對每個人提出的都是同一個問題：「你準備好幫助我拯救世界了嗎？
」你該問的是這個，而非小我的本質，如此你便會看見一片光亮霎時籠罩這整個小我營造的世界。
現在，沒有任何人無法享用奇蹟。
聖靈已把這個世界由你認定的模樣拯救了出來。
如今，世界的本質乃是全然的純潔、全然的無罪。
10.奇蹟行的是寬恕；小我給的是詛咒。
只需這點便足以界定兩者。
還有什麼定義能比這更明確，且與救恩的內涵更合拍？
問題與答案在此相聚一堂，它們終於碰面了，而該怎麼選擇也清楚了。
一旦認清了地獄，誰還會選擇地獄？
一旦得以明白路途並不遙遠，而天堂才是自己的目標，誰還不願多走那幾步路？
